Biotech Start-up Panels120AB Bechtel 4/7/10 6:30-8pm
This is an event for those students interested in forming a start-up company (probably biotech)! This is a great opportunity to learn about start-ups that have come out of Berkeley Bioengineering from the entrepreneurs themselves!
Things like: how do you get funding for a start-up? What are the common challenges in forming a start up particular to one in the biotech industry? How do you deal with FDA regulations? If you are at all considering going to graduate school with the mindset of formulating a company this is the event to go to. Come network with other bioengineering entrepreneurs and gain valuable knowledge from people with experience.
Representatives from CellASIC, Nanonerve Inc., NanoVasc, O N Diagnostics, and more! |

Much apologies for the hiatus from putting up info about events... But there are a few things coming up which are important for the lay-BioE student to connect to both the present and the future. Namely: the college you're at now and the college you may be heading off to! Graduate School Panel;) ;) >>For those of you who're sophomores and juniors, this is definitely an event for you as Professor Conolly will be covering a number of things which you will want to do and consider before your senior year (when you actually apply for graduate school!) Also, the insight from Terry Johnson (he's actually not a doctorate...) and the attending grad students may help you decide whether or not graduate school is for you. >>For those of you seniors, definitely come to get your questions and fears addressed from some very good sources! (hearsay from the undergrad grapevine is great for finding out about frat parties and the latest gadgetry, but not the most reliable of sources for figuring out grad school admissions) General Meeting again! Oct 29th 6pm-8pm (or even longer if you wish =D) 20 Barrows;) ;) ;) Pretty self-explanatory, yes? ^___^ But if you need more persuasion... Come for a good time and to network with your fellow BioE (and other major-ed) students! Come hang out with us officers, we're officers because we love hanging out, getting to know you (yes, you) and being the best resources we can be to our fellow students! And for those of you still wrangling with class choices, come chat up classmates and upperclassmen to get their take on your situation.... and free food!
Committee Social
FRIDAY 10/23 @ 6:15PM MEET @ BANCROFT & TELEGRAPH (next to Tully's)
We will be getting DINNER followed by some PARTY GAMES & FUN (we'll be bringin BANG, QUELF, & MORE...!!)
The plans regarding exactly where the food will be and where the fun will have not yet been decided, but they will be soon sent out to those of you who indicate to your committee chair (or Joyce, our IVP) your interest and intent on going.
Food possibilities (yummmm): Hot Pot City Sushi Minami (across from Asian ghetto Bobby's Pizza down on University Mayflower on University & Oxford Oriental BBQ Chicken Town (It's a little bit down Telegraph) If you've dinner plans already, come join for some ridiculously fun and quixotic games. If you've never heard of Quelf- it's okay- most of us hadn't either before this semester, but everyone swear its worth playing at least once; it's Cranium on crack! Hope to see you soon! |

Come out to meet all of
the officers, a bunch of your classmates and other students as well. Here, you'll learn about what BMES does, what BMES has to offer you, and how you can get more involved
with the club!

$10 and keychains for $3, for those of you who are interested in purchasing
them. Buy a BioE T-shirt and look forward to all the small perks you'll get when you wear it!

Hi again! Hopefully, if you're reading this, you went to the first GM and got to read the hard copy of this. But in case you didn't, or you've lost your copy, here's a pdf copy attached below!
With time, we may very well upload additional comments that didn't make the cut onto the condensed version which is the hard copy. Check back in a while and see! If you're really interested in additional information, please tell me and we will make sure it gets processed onto the website (just email us and ask!).
Dated: 09/10/09
Look out for our little booklet on some of the ins and outs of being a Cal BioE! It'll cover tips and tricks in areas from Academics to Research to Food&Fun!
Expect it to be out in print for your perusal sometime next week- probably by our first General Meeting! ...We'll also be uploading it onto this website for the absent-minded and the environmentally-minded.
Cheers! Dated: 09/01/09
