2010-2011 Officers-to-be! Application and Election information

To all those interested in becoming part of BMES Officer core for 2010-2011:

Here's the officer application!
Please download, fill it out and send it back to us at calbmes(at)gmail.com by 5pm Monday, 2/22.

Elections will be held on that following Friday, the 26th, starting at 6pm at Stanley. Please show up on time as we will be heading in together, before Stanley locks for the weekend. (If you have an issue with that time and will be late or unable to attend, please notify us ahead of time and we will work something out.)

2010-2011 Officer Positions:

President | Internal Vice President | External Vice President | Secretary | Treasurer | Academic Chair | Corporate Chair | Social Chair | Outreach Chair | Publicity Chair | Fundraising Chair | Webmaster | Historian

President: The President will be responsible for overseeing general club operations, writing agendas for the weekly officer meetings, and leading the officer meetings.

Internal VP: The Internal VP will serve as the backup “point person” for events, the liaison between BMES and the BioE department staff, and the person supporting the President in keeping people on track. In addition, the IVP will be the point person for Fall Reception.

External VP: The External VP will oversee BMES’ intersocietal relations, attending meetings for collaborative efforts (such as intersocietal events and EJC meetings) and making sure that all clubs involved are on the same page.

Secretary: The Secretary will take minutes at all officer meetings and compile a more comprehensible summary of weekly tasks for other officers. In addition, the Secretary will handle the e-mail listserv, informing general members of upcoming BMES events and other information.

Treasurer: The Treasurer will compile the annual budget, handle all monetary reimbursements to club members, and manage the BMES funds provided by EJC and the BioE Department.

Fundraising Chair: The Fundraising Chair will organize all fundraising activities (such as T-shirt sales) and events (such as barbecues). This person will ideally brainstorm to come up with new, creative ways of raising funds for the club, and will oversee a Fundraising Committee.

Social Chair: The Social Chair will plan social events for the club, which will include both intra- and inter-club events, and which will foster good will and collaboration among BMES members.

Outreach Chair: The Outreach Chair will manage BMES’ community service and outreach activities, which will chiefly include BEAM (ideally, this person will help run the BEAM de-cal) as well as events like the Berkeley Project and Engineering 4 Kids Day (E4K).

Academic Chair: The Academic Chair will organize academic-related events, which will include events pertaining to grad/med school, Professor Brunches, lab tours, and grad/undergrad student mixers. This person will oversee an Academic Committee to help plan and implement these events.

Corporate Chair: The Corporate Chair will organize professional events such as career panels, resume workshops, and company infosessions, and will work with BioEHS to plan events under the “BioTech Industry Profiling” (BioTIP) Committee. This person will oversee a Corporate Committee to help plan and implement these events.

Publicity Chair: The Publicity Chair will be responsible for building up student interest for club events, which is normally accomplished by such methods as creating and posting fliers around campus, making in-class announcements, and creating Facebook events. This person will oversee a Publicity Committee to help with these activities.

Webmaster: The role of Webmaster will include keeping the BMES website maintained and updated with new events and information, as well as pioneering new methods to utilize the internet as a resource for our members.

Historian: The Historian will be responsible for taking lots of pictures at club events and organizing the photo archive in a logical way. The Historian would also compile a brief report on each BMES event for future reference.
